Research Studies at NRI and EDI
NRI and EDI are currently conducting research studies on eating disorders and other neurophychiatric disorders.

If you are interested in participating in one of our studies or would like further information please see the research opportunities below or call one of the following numbers if you wish to inquire about other studies not posted below: 701-293-3056 or 1-877-299-3511

Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery
LABS is a National Instites of Health (NIH)-funded consortium or six clinical centers and data coordinating center working in cooperation with NIH scientific staff to plan, develop, and conduct coordinated clinical, epidemiological, and behavioral research in bariatric surgery.  LABS has brought together experts in bariatric surgery, obesisty research, internal medicine, endocrinology, behavioral science, outcomes research, epidemiology, and other relevant fields to plan and conduct studies that will analyze the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery and its impact on the health and well-being of patients with extreme obesity, and identify the kinds of patients who are most likely to benefit.  The consortium has developed a database for collecting standardized information on patients undergoing bariatric surgery at the participating clinical centers. Rigorously collected information on patient characteristics, types of surgery, medical and psychosocial outcomes, and economic factors will ultimately provide science-based information on the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery. This information should lead to rational recommendations for clinical care.

Exercise and Anorexia Nervosa Study

Exercise and Anorexia Nervosa Study

Women ages 18 and older who have symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa are invited to take part in a research project. This study is being conducted by the Neuropsychiatric Research Institute (NRI). This study provides us with information about Anorexia Nervosa – there is no treatment involved. Participants will be asked to complete a series of interviews and questionnaires, a brief physical exam, and a blood draw to determine eligibility (not pregnant, no vital sign instability or electrolyte imbalance). After completing this portion of the study you will be asked to carry a palm pilot with you continuously for 1 week. During this time the palm pilot will randomly beep you 6 times/day to answer a series of questions that will take approximately 2 minutes. In addition, you will wear a small physical activity monitor, approximately the size of pedometer, during the same week.

You will be paid $100 for the week that you carry the palm pilot and wear the activity monitor. You may also earn a $50 bonus for responding to the palm pilot beeps on time and wearing the activity monitor most days for a total of $150.

If you are interested in this study and would like further information please contact Dr. Christie Zunker at 701-365-4946 or czunker@nrifargo.com.
