Alcohol Use Before and 1 year after Bariatric Surgery (ETOH2): Based on previous empirical studies in this area that suggest that the effects of alcohol are different after bariatric surgery, this study examines changes in alcohol related impairment, and changes in reinforcing properties of alcohol pre to post bariatric surgery. This study is recruiting individuals who are planning to undergo Roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery to participate in a (approximately) year-long study on alcohol intake and bariatric surgery. The study involves an interview, questionnaires, blood and urine samples, and 4 sessions of alcohol administration in a laboratory. Before and after the alcohol administration participants will complete a driving simulator task and brief questionnaires.
Depending upon level of participation, subjects will be paid up to $1500 upon completion.
